One of the first breakfast dishes I learnt at my Slimming World group was syn free baked oats, I am not usually oats for breakfast person. But as it’s syn free and lots of other group members raved about it, I gave it a go.
After trying it I understand why and have been having it at least once a week since
A really tasty way to start the day and you can easily add more to bulk it out
Syn Free Baked Oats
INGREDIENTS
40g Plain Oats (Healthy Extra B allowance)
100g Plain fat free yoghurt (free)
1 large egg (protein)
1/2 teaspoon sweetener (free)
Spices or vanilla extract to flavour if desired but not necessary (free)
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat your oven first
Then I always suggest weighing out your oats first as this is the most important one to be accurate with
Once you have your 40g of oats in a bowl add 100g of plain fat free yoghurt
You can use natural and greek yoghurt too, just make sure they say fat free, not low fat to ensure they are syn free
Add in your egg and the sweetener
Give everything a good mix. You can add more yoghurt if you want to bulk it up but the mixture does expand slightly while cooking
Place the combined ingredients into an oven proof dish. This is just a single person serving so consider the size of the dish you are using
Cook on 180 degrees for about 35 minutes. If you have an air fryer you could cook them in that to save some time, they still taste the same.
If you have a deeper dish then it might take a bit longer and vice versa if you have spread it out
Syn free baked oats are best served hot. It isn’t recommended to bake multiple days and re-heat as the taste is affected
However, you can eat them cold if you refrigerate them for another day
Such a simple breakfast and really versatile too as you can add more fruit and fat free yoghurt on the side. This is all still making your breakfast syn free
If you are happy to allocate a couple of syns instead why not try adding some chocolate spread? Just make sure you work out the syns beforehand. A typical tablespoon of chocolate spread is about 80 calories, 4 syns but always check the label first
You can enjoy this for breakfast or dessert
If baked oats aren’t for you what about overnight oats, they can be just as filling and syn free
