A lot of people think that weight loss is just one clear path with one clear result at the end, and that if you do the same things, follow the same rules, you’ll get the same results as other people. But in real life, it doesn’t actually work like that at all, and the fact is that two people can eat the same kinds of things, exercise in similar ways, and still have very different experiences and results.

The thing to remember is that if your results aren’t the same as someone else’s, that’s not because you’re doing something wrong, necessarily, or that they’ve cracked the code and they’re doing everything right… It tends to just mean you’re different people, and your weight loss journeys are going to be different. With that in mind, keep reading to find out more.

Weight Loss Different For Everyone

Bodies Don’t All Work The Same Way

People start from different places – height, age, genetics, hormones, daily routines… they all play a part in how bodies respond to change. Some people are going to notice changes really quickly, and others might not see much difference for years, even when they’re consistent and potentially doing the same or very similar things.

That can be pretty frustrating, especially when you’re comparing yourself to someone else, but it’s also absolutely normal, which is something a lot of people tend to forget. The fact is, weight loss is never just about the effort put in, it’s also about how your body responds to that effort, and those factors we mentioned above are going to play a part.

Life Circumstances Make A Difference

What your days look like makes a big impact on weight loss, which is often something that comes as a surprise to people – but once you look into it, you’ll see it makes more sense. For example, someone working long shifts or juggling childcare is going to have different challenges to someone with more flexibility in their lives. Sleep, stress, and time are all going to affect how easy or hard it feels to make real changes.

That’s one reason why plans that work really well for one person can feel totally impossible for another. So don’t worry – you’re not lacking willpower, it’s just that your circumstances are different, so the results are going to vary too.

Food Choices Are Personal

And of course, people often respond differently to food – you’ll find some people do best when they eat regular meals, but others like small portions more often through the day, for example. And then there are cultural habits, taste preferences, and past experiences that can all add together to determine how and even when people eat.

That’s why asking questions about food, including important questions like what to eat on Saxenda, is so important, but why the answers are going to potentially be rather different depending on who you are and how you function. It’s good to ask the question and then work out how to fit what you learn into your life, to ensure you’re getting the most out of your own way of doing things.

Progress Isn’t Always Obvious

Weight loss isn’t something most people will be able to see right away – the changes are so gradual that it’s only when you look back over your journey that you’ll see the difference. And that’s actually a good thing because as motivating as dramatic weight loss might be, it’s not totally healthy, and it’s not sustainable. Slow and sure wins the race every time.

What you’ll want to look out for are other signs that you’re doing is working, like changes in energy, appetite, or perhaps how clothes fit, because they’ll be around long before you see that you’ve lost weight. The fact is, if you’re expecting progress to look one specific way, it’s easy to miss what’s actually happening, and missing the truth could mean you decide to stop the good work you’re putting in because you don’t realise just how good it actually is.

Comparison Makes Everything Harder

It’s so tempting to compare your progress to someone else’s, especially when you’re probably seeing a lot of positive weight loss stories on social media, but all that comparison can end up putting you under a massive amount of unnecessary pressure, and you’ll start questioning whether you’re behind or doing enough, even when you’re making steady progress in your own way.

If you can stop comparing yourself to others, that’s usually going to make the whole process feel easier, more positive, and more enjoyable, and those things added together are great for maintaining motivation.

Consistency Looks Different Too

For some people, consistency means doing the same thing every day, and for others, it means sticking to a routine (even if that routine is different each day). The point is, life is always going to be unpredictable, so trying to be consistent in a way that doesn’t really work for you isn’t going to help you reach your goals, unless your goal happens to be exhaustion and burnout.

A flexible way of doing things that allows for busy weeks, social events, and even days when you’ve not got a whole load of energy, is often a much easier thing to have in place because you’ll have less guilt and better results.

There’s No Universal Timeline

Some people reach their goals really quickly, and others take ages – but they all get there in the end, which is proof that there’s no one way that’s better than the other if you end up in the same place. And remember, the timeline doesn’t say anything about how much effort you put in or how many setbacks you had along the way, so if your journey is taking a little longer, don’t worry about it – you know you’re heading in the right direction.

The point is, expecting to move in a totally straight line usually leads to disappointment, but accepting that progress can be slow, uneven, and can even go backwards means you’ll more than likely keep going.
