If you’ve ever experienced any feelings of anxiety, then you’ll know all too well how crippling it can be. One moment you’re fine and the next, it’s like a storm cloud has gathered over you and only you. You can’t get out, your heart is pounding, and your instincts are screaming at you to get out of the situation you’re in. Whether you experience anxiety regularly, or it’s something that pops up out of nowhere, it’s not a nice experience. But, there are lots of things you can do to feel better in that moment while you ride out the storm.

Ground Yourself

One of the best tried and tested methods of relieving anxiety is to use the grounding method. When you’re feeling anxious or worried, try the 5-4-3-2-1 method. Taking yourself away from the situation to identify these things helps bring you “back down” and helps you cope with your feelings. Grounding works so well because it allows you to realise that you’re still in control of what your body is doing.

Remind yourself what goes up must come down

Anxiety is often described as riding a tsunami wave. You’re unable to come down and you’re not enjoying the ride either. However, it’s important to remember that what goes up, must come down. This means that while you’re feeling anxious right now, that feeling isn’t going to last forever. Sometimes, reminding yourself of this can help relieve those feelings and bring you a bit closer back to normality.

Use natural ways of relaxing

There are loads of natural remedies you can use to help relieve feelings of stress and anxiety. Some people turn to herbal teas like chamomile or valerian root. Their calming effects can help quiet your mind and make you feel a little bit better. Some people find that eating or drinking doesn’t suit the way they’re feeling when they’re anxious and instead turn to a THCP vape to relax when they’re anxious. Either way, exploring natural ways of relaxing might help you ride that wave of anxiety.

Get Moving

It’s very likely that movement is the last thing on your mind when you’re feeling anxious. In fact, a lot of people don’t move at all when they’re anxious. However, physically moving is one of the best ways to relieve that built up tension. Don’t worry, we’re not suggesting you run a 5k every time you feel anxious! We’re simply suggesting a walk or some yoga. It helps you regulate your breathing and it releases endorphins which will help improve your mood.

Take a step back from your situation

Finally, sometimes the best way to get a grasp on your anxiety is by taking a step back from your situation. If you were helping a friend who felt like you are now, what would you do to help? Are you anxious based on a fact or the fear of one? Doing this can help reframe your mind and in turn, help you calm yourself faster than normal.
