Whether you’re an excellent chef or you could use a little help in the kitchen, the fact is that no dish is ever perfect. It can be delicious, excellent, better than you might have hoped, but not perfect. That’s why it’s always a good idea to see what you can add to your food to improve it in some way – you never know what’s going to work, and by adding just one extra ingredient, you could come up with something as close to perfect as it’s going to get.

With that in mind, here are some things you can add to your food to improve it every time.

What To Add To Your Food

Add Honey

If you only ever use honey to add to baked goods or to spread over toast, you’re missing out. Although it is certainly sweet, that doesn’t mean it can only be used on sweet dishes (and in fact, adding honey to things that are already sweet can make it too sweet, and that’s bad for your teeth as well as being off-putting to eat) – honey goes wonderfully with plenty of savoury items as well.

Vegetables are a great example of when you can add honey to a dish and make it better, but this is usually only the case when you’re roasting them, and when it comes to other cooking methods, honey is better avoided. When roasting, the sugar in the honey becomes caramelised, giving a lovely texture as well as taste to your carrots, parsnips, potatoes, and more. Plus, you can add honey to mayo or other dressings to sweeten things up, and when you add a honey dressing to something like chicken or perhaps salad, it can make all the difference.

CBD Seasoning

You’ll have heard of seasoning if you cook anything at all – it’s the salt, pepper, and other elements you add to a dish to bring out the flavours while you’re cooking or when you’re just about to serve the food. It’s also likely you’ll have heard about CBD, which is an element of marijuana, but it doesn’t make you high – instead, by using it in oil, taking capsules, or a plethora of other ways, CBD can make you feel relaxed and may provide some pain relief and a lessening of anxiety symptoms (although studies are still ongoing).

By combining the two and using CBD seasoning on your food, you can get the best of both worlds. Not only will you be adding great flavour to a variety of different food (such as using the piri piri version on prawns or chicken, for example), but you’ll feel great too. You can essentially turn dinner into something to really look forward to.

Red Pepper Flakes

Spicy food can be really interesting and add some different flavours to your usual dishes. You can add chilli flakes or curry powder to most things to make them much hotter, but although many people find this tasty, others don’t like it – it’s too hot for their palettes, and they don’t enjoy the sensation.

This is where red pepper flakes come in. These little flakes can easily be sprinkled onto or into food, and they’ll add a little kick of heat to most things, but they’re not as hot as chilli or curry powder or most other things that bring spice to your meals. Instead, they’re flavoursome and tangy, giving a bit of bite but not too much.
